Teen dies, another injured in fatal crash

A 19-year-old man died while his 17-year-old friend was injured after their motorcycle hit a gutter and post on S. Osmeña St., Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday. John Paulo Toring suffered severe injuries in the head and different parts of his body. He was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center but died. His friend, Shirley Mae Dungog, is recuperating in the hospital. PO2 Jomar Florentino of the Lapu-Lapu Police Office Traffic Division said Toring was traveling from Sitio Carajay when he lost control of his motorcycle.

Vehicular accident claims driver's life

A motorcycle driver hit a public utility jeepney after the former tried to overtake a vehicle in Barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City last Sunday. Pedro Baricuatro, 27, who hails from Pinamungajan died after he suffered severe injuries. PO1 Melvin Eyas of the Lapu-Lapu Police Office Traffic Division said Baricuatro was on his way to Cebu City from Barangay Mactan when his motorcycle hit the jeepney driven by Karl Cutor, 36, past 5 a.m. The victim was brought to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Cutor was freed after posting bail.

OCD to build evacuation camps in Cebu, Bohol

THE Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 7 has set aside P36 million for the construction of several evacuation centers in the region. Engr. Ver Neil Balaba said they are planning to build a two-storey facility that can accommodate 10 to 15 families in Medellin and Naga City, Cebu and another one in Bohol. The facility will occupy a 2,600-square-meter property. Balaba, however, said they might transfer the evacuation center in Naga to Cebu City since Naga is “too far” from the airport. Man brandishing firearm dies in shootout

Police killed an armed person in a shootout in Barangay Poblacion, Danao City last Saturday night. Suspect Don Vincent Mamites succumbed to gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body. He was rushed to the Cebu Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The Theft and Robbery Section led by PO3 Phil Restauro went to F. Ralota St. after receiving a report about a person brandishing a pistol past 11 p.m. When they reached the area, the suspect refused to surrender and started to shoot. The officers shot back and hit Mamites.

Unknown assasins take life of drug personality

Two unidentified men shot a suspected drug pusher to death in Barangay Bangbang, Cordova last Saturday night. Police identified the fatality as Joyeily Rapada Pacaldo, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. Investigation showed that the victim was standing outside a store with a friend when the culprits, riding on a motorcycle, arrived near them. The gunmen then opened fire at the victim. Pacaldo had a pending warrant of arrest for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, before he was attacked past 11 p.m.
