Duterte appoints Puentevella son to John Hay Board

Monico “Nicky” Puentevella Jr. has been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as member of the Board of Directors of the John Hay Management Corp. (JHMC).

This was announced on Monday in a press release from Puentevella Jr.’s younger brother, Bacolod City Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella.

Both are sons of former Bacolod mayor Monico Puentevella.

“Not surprised at all, the President being a good friend of my dad. Blessed and thankful for the trust and confidence given to a member of the family in the service of the Filipino. Proud Bacolodnon here,” Councilor Puentevella said in a text message to SunStar Bacolod Monday.

The President stated in a letter to Puentevella dated Feb. 8, 2017, “Pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, you are hereby appointed Member, Board of Directors, John Hay Management Corporation.”

Puentevella will serve the unexpired term of former director Caesar Oracion that began on July 1, 2016 and will end on June 30, 2017.

In a communication dated Feb. 13, 2017, Gregorio D. Garcia III, chairman of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), informed Puentevella of his appointment and extended his congratulations.

“I am pleased to inform you that you have been appointed to the position . . . by President Rodrigo R. Duterte” Garcia said in his letter.

JHMC is a government-owned and controlled corporation that serves as the implementing arm of the BCDA in the Camp John Hay Reservation. It is mandated to develop the reservation as a premiere tourist destination of northern Philippines.

In 2009, Puentevella was also appointed by then president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as director of the Philippine Postal Bank Inc. (MAP)
