Couple shot dead in La Castellana town

A COUPLE was shot and killed by an unidentified man at Sitio Lapak, Barangay Robles in La Castellana, Negros Occidental Monday afternoon.

Senior Inspector Jerry Nacion, chief of La Castellana Municipal Police Station, identified the fatalities as Jose Milandro Pasoy, 53, and Alicia Cabigunda, 51.

Pasoy was a casual employee of the Municipal Government.

Investigation showed that the couple, who were riding a motorcycle, was on their way to the town proper around 3:30 p.m. when a lone gunman appeared from the sugarcane field and fired at them.

They were shot in the head at close range, Nacion said.

Recovered from the scene of the crime were three bullet shells of .45 caliber pistol and a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver owned by Pasoy.

Investigators are eyeing three angles in the couple’s killing – land conflict, grudge, and robbery.

Nacion said the couple possessed an undetermined amount of cash, but Cabigunda’s bag was not recovered.

“We are trying to establish if there was robbery. We cannot conclude anything yet,” the police chief added.
