THE director of Police Regional Office-Central Visayas said they can help prevent the entry of illegal drugs in jail facilities by giving intelligence information to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

Chief Supt. Noli Taliño said they cannot directly inspect the jails because Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa has suspended all anti-illegal drug operations of the Philippine National Police.

Last Feb. 12, Mary Ann Labita, 45, was arrested for trying to bring ampules of Nubain hidden inside 20 pieces of bread to the Cebu City Jail’s male dormitory.

Seven days later, jail guards captured April Mariquit after she attempted to smuggle more than 50 grams of suspected shabu inside the Talisay City Jail.

Taliño said the BJMP can also tap the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7 for the conduct of anti-illegal drug operations inside the jails.
