Woman wounded, nephew unscathed in ambush

A WOMAN was wounded while her nephew escape unscathed in an ambush in the hinterlands of Basilan province, the military reported Wednesday, February 22.

Newly-installed Army’s 104th Infantry Brigade Commander Juvymax Uy said the incident occurred around 10 a.m. Wednesday in the boundary of Sumisip and Maluso municipalities.

Uy identified the victim as Satarian Jaber and her nephew as Ahamad.

He said Jaber and her nephew were traversing the Cabcaban-Canas road in the boundary of Sumisip and Maluso towns aboard a motorcycle when around five unidentified gunmen ambushed them.

The commander said troops from the Army’s 68th Infantry Battalion rushed to the ambush site and provided first aid to Jaber upon receipt of report.

Uy said the troops took Jaber to the hospital in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.

He said troops from the Alpha company of the 68th Infantry Battalion conducted clearing operation to ensure safe passage along Cabcaban-Canas road that links the town of Sumisip to Maluso.
