THE parents of Patricia Jane Carbelledo, who is one year and six months old, went to her grandparents in Barangay Anopog, Pinamungajan, Cebu last Monday morning to borrow money.
This, so they can buy medicines for their child, who is nursing a fever.
Carbelledo’s father, James, who is a construction worker, didn’t have money for her medicines.
When they went back to their home in Purok Bakhaw, Barangay Cabiangon in the afternoon, they, however, discovered that their daughter had drowned inside a small pail of water.
The girl accidentally fell head first into the pail of water.
The parents rushed their daughter to the town’s public hospital, but the attending doctor failed to revive her.
The girl was already dead when her body arrived in the emergency room.
PO1 Nathaniel Mansueto, desk officer of the Pinamungajan Police Station, said Carbelledo was entrusted to her two aunts, who are the younger sisters of her mother.
He said the parents left their house around 10 a.m.
According to the investigation conducted by SPO1 Nonita Baroman of the town’s childrens and women’s desk, the aunts, aged 15 and 11, dozed off while looking after their niece, who can walk.
Before they slept, however, they let Carbelledo sleep beside them in the bed.
The parents of Carbelledo came home around 1:40 p.m.
The father was the first person to discover the body of his daughter.
