Pelione takes Bata Chess Under-12 title

CHRISTIAN Pelione scored 4.5 out of 5 points in standard play to take the title after the two-day 7th Barangay Bata Chess Tournament 2017 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Gym in Bata, Bacolod City.

U12 champion Pelione outpointed second placer Irimar Ortega (4.0/5 pts, 14.5 BH) and third placer Jhunrell Ferrer (4.0/5 pts, 14.0 BH) to come out the big winner.

Rounding up the U12 top 10 finishers were Neil Cena (3.5/5, 17.0), Alessa Montepio (3.5/5, 14.0), Jasmine Atienza (3.5/5, 13.0), Jamelin Lim (3.0/5, 15.0), Patrick Launo (3.0/5, 13.0), Janna Remus (3.0/5, 12.0), and Adam Belano (3.0/5, 8.0).

Bata Councilman Roderick Gregas said he is grateful for the continued support of the parents and chess players for the sports program.

“We hope this age-group tournament will serve its purpose to improve and nurture the chess talents of these young kids,” Gregas added.

Bacolod City Chess Players Association Inc. president Dominador Bergano Jr. said the tournament is good for the chess community especially for young potentials who are the future of Bacolod chess.

Completing the Inter-Purok division top 10 wee Philip Caudilla (4.5/5, 14.0), Vito Tapulgo (4.0/5, 14.0, 10.5 SB), Ariel Solinap (4.0/5, 14.0, 9.5 SB), Joemarie Tribaco (3.0/5, 14.5), Stephen Sancho (3.0/5, 14.0), Francisco Gallo (3.0/5, 10.0), Jomar Funuan (2.5/5, 14.5), Lover Sangho (2.0/5, 14.0), Joseph Cuerda (2.0/5, 12.5), and Angelo Soldevilla (2.0/5, 11.0).
