A MEMBER of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) based in Sagay City, Negros Occidental was disarmed and restricted while under investigation after he hit a traffic enforcer in Bacolod City last February 11.

Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), identified the policeman as Police Officer 1 John Chan.

Chan was caught on a cellular phone video hitting traffic enforcer Bobby Luberas three times as witnessed by two other traffic enforcers.

Luberas’s companions were afraid to defend him since they saw that the policeman had a gun.

Senior Superintendent William Señoron, acting director of Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (Nocppo), said over ABS-CBN Bacolod that a personnel of the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) national office enforced the order to disarm Chan.

Señoron said the IAS of Police Regional Office-Negros Island confiscated Chan’s service firearm and badge.

He was also restricted from entering the PNP-SAF headquarters while he is being investigated, he added.

Acebuche said they will file physical injury and grave misconduct charges against Chan, who will also face administrative charges if proven guilty of the offense.

Chan cannot be reached for comment as of press time.

Aside from Luberas, two more traffic enforcers were also hurt by motorists in separate incidents last week.
