Ombudsman penalizes 63 government execs

THE Office of the Ombudsman in Mindanao recorded 63 public officials have been sanctioned before the office as of this month.

Data obtained from the Office of the Ombudsman in Mindanao showed that of the 63 officials who were sanctioned, nine are high-ranking officials (HROs) and 54 are low-ranking officials (LROs).

Out of the 63 officials, 42 are facing dismissal from the service, one was suspended for more than six months, 16 are suspended for six months and below and four have been reprimanded.

Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao lawyer Rodolfo Elman said those have been sanctioned are municipal mayor, city mayor, vice-mayor, governor and vice-governor, and councilors, among others.

Among the common administrative offenses committed by these officials are Anti-Graft Corrupt Practices Act, grave misconduct, malversation, abuse of their authority, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.

Last year, OMB-Min has sanctioned 225 total HROs and LROs. The Ombudsman also collected P3,314,284.67 fines from the officials sanctioned in 2016.
