A PREGNANT woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly robbed a church-goer hearing mass inside St. Augustine’s Cathedral of her bag containing P560 Wednesday, February 22.

The suspect, 24 year-old Joana Rose Salles of Barangay Bulua, is presently detained at Police Station 1-Divisoria.

According to the victim, 19-year-old Cindy Pacana of Barangay Kauswagan, was holding her bag while praying when Salles sat beside her.

Pacana said Salles forcibly took her hand bag from her, telling her when she resisted, "Unsa man? Dili nimo ihatag and bag? Naa ra ba koy kauban gawas nga lalaki naay pusil. Atangan ka namo ug patyon?" (So? You won't give the bag? I have a male companion waiting outside who has a gun. We will wait for you and kill you)

Pacana said she let go of her bag which contained her money and Salles hurriedly left the Cathedral.

Pacana said she went outside to seek help. Upon exiting the church, she asked some of the people in the area if they saw the suspect who was wearing a red shirt carrying her brown and white hand bag.

A witness told her of a woman fitting her description of the robber heading towards the church parking lot where, with the help of the church’s security personnel, Pacana was able to recover her bag.

Security guard Guilvic Pamisa turned over the suspect to the police. (Abigail Viguella)
