Cop chiefs deny tales of coddling ‘killer’

POLICE Regional Office 7 Director Noli Taliño said the police chiefs of Panglao and Tagbilaran City denied giving the alleged mastermind behind the death of environmental lawyer Mia Mascariñas-Green special treatment.

Tagbilaran City Police Chief Nicomedes Olaivar denied knowing the suspect, Lloyd Gonzaga.

For his part, Panglao Island Police Chief Joemar Pomarejos admitted knowing Gonzaga, but he denied giving protection to the manager of Alona Embrace Hotel.

The investigation stemmed from the complaint filed by businesswoman Conrada Blomqvist before Taliño last Monday.

Green was the counsel of Blomqvist, who accused Pomajeros and Olaivar of ignoring her request for assistance when suspects Gonzaga and Romarico Benigian took over her hotel.

Suspect Gonzaga is Blomqvist’s son-in-law.

Before the killing of Green last Feb. 15 in Tagbilaran City, Gonzaga allegedly called Blomqvist, threatening he would break her head open.

Green was driving a car with her three children onboard when she was attacked by the suspects. The kids were unharmed.

The lawyer was buried last Tuesday afternoon.
