'Bully' stabbed dead by neighbor in Danao City

An alleged bully was stabbed to death by a neighbor in Barangay Cahumayan, Danao City last Wednesday night. Elmer Kalipay, 32, succumbed to multiple stab wounds in his body. Neighbors and relatives rushed him to a public hospital in the city, but the doctor declared him dead on arrival. The alleged assailant, Jayren Genzon Castillo, 23, did not escape after he committed the crime. Danao City Police Chief Alejandro Batobalonos said the suspect admitted he planned to kill Kalipay, saying the victim often hurt and tease him on several occasions. Castillo and Kalipay used to work as miners before.

Man, 27, drowns in seawaters off Poblacion, Argao

A 27-year-old man drowned in the seawaters off Sitio Looc Lawis, Barangay Poblacion, Argao past 4 p.m. Wednesday.Police identified the fatality as Richie Hisoler Rueda, a resident of Nivel Hills, Cebu City. Rueda’s mother, Jacinta, said they were about to go home at 3 p.m. on that day when she noticed her son was missing. Jacinta looked for him. An hour later, a fisherman saw Rueda. They rushed him to Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital, but the doctor failed to revive him. Rueda was already dead when his body arrived in the emergency room.

PRO 7 chief backs DILG drug-free sticker plan

Police Regional Office-Central Visayas Director Noli Taliño supports the plan of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to use stickers to identify drug-free households. “The objective is good,” he said in Tagalog. DILG Secretary Ismael Sueno said they will tap the members of peace and order councils, including the police, to carry out the campaign. He will also ask assistance from the local officials. The councils will determine which household is drug-free and post stickers on each house. They will work on the family, which still has a member who is hooked on illegal drugs.

'Burglar' killed by unidentified gunman in Ermita

An alleged burglar was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Barangay Ermita yesterday dawn. The victim, identified only as “Roger,” succumbed to several gunshot wounds on his body. In an initial investigation by the Homicide section of the Cebu City Police Office, Roger was walking towards the interior neighborhood of Barangay Ermita when the unknown gunman shot him. Residents in the area claimed that Roger was not from their barangay. Authorities recovered five empty shells of caliber .45, three slugs and three live bullets from the scene.

Arrested for driving with fake licenses

Five persons were apprehended for driving with fake licenses in Mandaue City for the past two weeks. One of those apprehended was a foreigner. Glenn Antigua, chief for operations of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team), said the traffic enforcer flagged down the foreigner who violated the no left turn policy near the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Mandaue last week. However, it turned out that the license number of the foreigner was owned by someone from Caloocan City. Last Monday, a public utility jeepney driver was also apprehended for driving without a license.
