Prisaa resumes February 24

FOOTBALL action starts as the Davao City Private Schools Athletics Association (Prisaa) Meet 2017 resumes at the Tionko field Friday, February 24.

Davao City Prisaa executive director Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia, guest during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao on Thursday, February 23, said four teams are seeing action in the men's football event including University of Mindanao (UM), Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC), Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines and Philippine College of Technology.

Sarabia said, "All the events will wrap up on Sunday but men's basketball will continue on March 4 and 5 at the JMC (Jose Maria College) Gym."

The men's basketball, according to Sarabia, has more participants. Thus, it will need more playing dates to finish.

The Agro Sailors and DMMA College of Southern Philippines (DCSP) Mariners led their respective brackets in men's cagefest.

Agro drew first blood by sinking the RMC Bulldogs, 85-79, in bracket A while DCSP scored a twin kill in bracket B, routing STI College, 91-71, after crushing Brokenshire College, 90-61.

RMC, however, recovered by pulling off a 96-69 thrashing of the UM Wildcats.

The JMC Kings opened its bid with an easy 95-66 victory over Brokenshire.

In the distaff side, RMC Lady Bulldogs tamed the UM Cardinals, 63-57.

Basketball matches will resume on Saturday at the Brokenshire Gym.

At least 18 events are entered in the city eliminations that serves as qualifying for the Southern Mindanao Prisaa Meet that was reset to March 31 to April 2 but Sarabia said few sports will go straight to the regionals like athletics.

Sarabia said the regional meet was postponed to a later date in time for athletes' summer break. It was earlier set on March 10 to 12 in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

"Mas maayo man gud nga wala nay klase kay tong unang schedule duna pay mga exams ang mga bata (A later schedule is better since the original dates would fall on the examinations of the athletes)," Sarabia said.

The National Prisaa Meet will push through on April 22 to 29 in Iba, Zambales.
