FOURTEEN illegal gamblers in the act of playing card games and drop balls in separate areas in the region were arrested by elements of the Police Regional Office–Cordillera (PRO-Cor) on Tuesday.
Chief Superintendent Elmo Francisc Sarona, PRO-COR regional director said the police’ crackdown on illegal gambling in the region will carry on as long as there are tough gambling operators that keeps on operating their illegal activities.
“We will not cease to eliminate these nefarious activities until all the supporters will be arrested and locked up in jail,” Sarona said.
In Abra, joint Intelligence operatives of PRO-Cor arrested eleven gamblers at the fiesta carnival in Zone 2, Bangued in the morning of February 21.
Arrested gamblers were Reyquel Esta Samusam, 27; James Baptista Duyao, 26; JR Matinez Marquez, 28; Glenford Ebangelista Vicencio, 24; Darrel Doroni Banguilan, 22; and Arnel Bersamina Rebaula, 26, all operators of “drop ball” while bettors were Mark Ver Batalao Valeros, 29; Joel Bayang Collantes, 32; Twinks Doroni Banguila, 18; Dennis Gabu Barreyro, 26; and Erwin Gabay Guzman, 23.
Confiscated from their possession were different drop ball gambling paraphernalia and cash bet amounting to P88,941.
In Baguio City, three gamblers were also arrested in the afternoon of February 21 at the parking area of Maharlika Building, Baguio City.
Arrested gamblers were Raymund Operario Batang, 36, Alejandro Bienes Besa, 52, and Alejandro Galvan Quibote, 61, all residents of the city.
Their arrest was made possible through a tip from a concerned citizen informing an illegal gambling was in progress prompting the operatives of Station 7 to speedily respond leading to the arrest of the suspects.
Confiscated from the suspects were complete set of bicycle playing cards and cash bet amounting to P750.
A case for violation of PD 1602 otherwise as Illegal Gambling was filed against all arrested suspects at the Prosecutor’s Office. (PRO-Cor RPIO)
