THE Consolacion Mountain Bike Duathlon, which will be held on March 26, offers a technical off-road route that would make a good preparation for the Xterra Off-Road Triathlon in April.

Consolacion Mountain Bike Duathlon race director Alan Choachuy announced at the official launching at the SM Consolacion Event Center that the course that engineer Fritz Co designed will make a good preparation for the April event, which will be held in Danao City.

“Our route (for the bike race) is very technical as it features nearly 90 percent off-road course. It is a single track and riders will have to tackle a lot of downhills and uphills. They will need to cross a river, pass by a cornfield, where they could encounter farmers, who will be hard at work at that time, plowing the field,” Choachuy said.

The race will start with a 5-kilometer run, followed by a 20K bike and will finish with a 3K run.

Choachuy is thankful for the support of his partners and registration centers YKK Bikes, Cycle Logic and Missking Link Cycling.

The early registration has now reached more than 100 entries.

“We are expecting about 300 athletes, but if we have 200, we’d be happy already. However, this would be a good opportunity for those who are preparing for a big triathlon race to test their stamina and skills,” added Choachuy.

Omega Tri-Team as well as participants from Tacloban and Ormoc have already signed up for the competition.

Athletes to watch out for include international cyclist Jun Duron and Xterra pro Joseph Miller.

The categories for this race include Juniors (19& below), Millennials (20-29), Veterans (30-39) andRelay Open.

The athletes to watch in the relay category include amputees champion road racers Rex Gonzales (bike) and Niño Silverio (run) of the Parklane Para-Tri Team.

Early registration will end on March 1.

Gun start will be at 6 a.m. at the SM Consolacion Parking Area.
