APOLINARIO Mabini Elementary school won the championship title of the Grand Street Dance Parade Competition held on Saturday, February 25, in Baguio City.
There were three major categories for the competition: Elementary School Category; High School Category; and the Open Category.
The A. Mabini Elementary School (ES) bagged the championship title for the fourth time in the same number of innings.
The A. Mabini ES Street Dancers were accompanied by Long Lyre table, huge orange leaves at the background and with fairy princesses, dancing gracefully.
About 115 children danced in their colorful metallic costumes with apple green glittery shoes.
A. Mabini ES also bagged the Best in Musical Interpretation, Best in Props, and Best in Costume awards.
Baguio Central ES also retained its second place standing for the second time around.
Baguio Central used the theme “Kalikasan with Goddess Florasan” and danced to the songs “Isang Dapit Hapon” by Nonoy Zuniga and “Piliin Mo Ang Inang Pilipinas”.
Dominican Mirador ES came in third place and bagged the Best in Choreography belt.
The High School Category opened this year and was participated in by four high schools.
Baguio City National High School won the first place with a powerful dance performance depicting the cycle of planting flowers.
Very distinct pests portrayed by black painted bodies of dancers and plants growing and flowers blossoming performed by very energetic dancers.
Life Cycle of flowers happened on layers of brown cloth as soil.
Saint Louis University Laboratory HS placed second with their very colorful performance using bright colored cloths as props.
The dancers were adorned with headgears of sunflowers, daisies and roses made out of recycled materials and were accompanied by the school’s marching band.
Pines City National HS and Pinsao National HS placed third and fourth respectively.
Eight participants from different provinces vied for the honors in the Open Category which the Pugo Catholic School from Pugo, La Union claimed as winners.
After winning the Tinungbo Festival, the LGU sponsored their participation to Baguio’s Grand Street Dancing Competition.
Their performance highlighted the lives of farmers and the native way to cook rice using “tungbo” (bamboo) on charcoal or low fire which is called “tinungbo”.
Other winners in the open category were Lubuagan, Kalinga; Virac ES Drum and Lyre Corps of Virac, Itogon; Manaoag National HS Drum and Lyre Corps from Manaoag, Pangasinan; Cholibes Cultural Ensemble from Itogon; Madaymen Drum and Lyre Corps of Camilo Lucaben ES from Kibungan, Benguet; the Chows of Santa Maria de Bethania Marching Showband of Bulacan and Ayoweng Di Gansa from Tadian, Mountain Province.
