Palace suspends classes due to transport strike

MALACAÑANG has declared a suspension of classes in elementary and high school levels in areas that could be affected by the transport strike on Monday.

The Office of the Executive Secretary made the directive, which will cover both public and private schools nationwide.

"(The) reason for the suspension of classes is the transport strike," a Palace official said.

There is no announcement yet if classes in the tertiary level would also be suspended.

In Cebu province, Mandaue City has declared no classes from elementary to pre-school level while Talisay City will have no classes in all levels.

The transport operators and drivers’ group plan to hold a strike on Monday to show their opposition to the government’s plan to replace jeepneys over 15 years old. (SDR/SunStar Philippines)
