Fernandez, Tumbali take 2 golds each in athletics

DUMAGUETE CITY – Two Grade 11 students from the cities of Sagay and La Carlota won two gold medals each in their respective events in the ongoing 2017 Negros Island Region Athletic Association (Niraa) Meet at the Perdices Sports Stadium here.

Cesar Fernandez from Molocaboc Integrated National High School in Molocaboc Island, Sagay City and Ailyn Tumbali of Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto Memorial National High School in La Carlota City dominated their respective events.

Fernandez won the gold in boys secondary long jump with a distance of 6.36 meters and also the secondary boys triple jump.

Jessie Tormis of Bacolod City settled for silver behind Fernandez in secondary boys long jump in 6.25 meters while Fernandez’s teammate Judipher Carranzo took the bronze with a distance of 6.21 meters.

Carranzo also settled for silver in the secondary boys triple jump while Tormis took the bronze.

Tumbali, 17, of Hacienda Paz in Barangay Batuan, La Carlota City won the secondary girls 100-meter hurdles in 15.87 seconds; Jennifer Hudierez of Bacolod City bagged the silver with 16.03 seconds; and Rosalie Estillone of Negros Occidental, the bronze in 16.20 seconds.

Tumbali also won the secondary girls triple jump with a distance of 11.44 meters; Marjorie Uy of Dumaguete City - silver in 11.27 meters; and Tiexie de la Torre of Bacolod City - bronze in 10.88 meters.

De la Torre also won the gold in secondary girls long jump in 5.57 meters distance; Uy took the silver in 5.30 meters; and Rena Del Rosario of Sagay City, the bronze in 5.15 meters.

Bernalyn Besoy of Bacolod City won the gold in secondary girls 400 meters with 57.90 seconds as teammate Ma. Isabel Orquerza settled for silver in 57.98 seconds and Clarine Comahig of Negros Occidental took the bronze in 59.43 seconds.

In secondary boys division, Philip Ortega of Negros Oriental won the gold in 110 meter hurdles, clocking 15.93 seconds while Paul Roman Magillano of La Carlota City got the silver in 16 seconds .

Jan Elmer Dayon of Bacolod City won the gold in secondary boys 400 meters (51.29); Philip Ortega of Negros Oriental bagged the silver (51.92); and Jeson Moreno of Negros Occidental took the bronze (52.15).

Ritchie Estampador of Negros Occidental dominated the 5,000-meter run (16:54.28); Greg Lorega of Escalante City settled for silver (16:59.35); and Rogine Aguirre of Sagay City took the bronze (17:26.43).

Kiervi Abelo of Bago City won the gold in secondary boys shot put in 12.22 meters distance over John Boy Purisima of Negros Occidental who grabbed the silver in 12.11 meters; and Lewanie Rivera of Bacolod City pocketed the bronze in 12.08 meters.

In elementary girls division, Ashley Nicole Rufia of San Carlos City dominated shot put with a distance of 9.82 meters using the three kilos of iron ball; Kale Julianne Martinez of Bago City settled for silver in 9.77 meters and Lara Mae Kyle Justine Manabat of Negros Occidental took the bronze in 8.76 meters distance.

Ica Joy Casag of Negros Occidental won the gold in elementary girls 100-m hurdles clocking 18.29 seconds; Sheen Babelone of Negros Oriental (19.03) snatched the silver; and Mariel Barbon of Negros Oriental took the bronze (19.35).

Aubrey Mae Mercado of Bacolod City won the gold in elementary girls 400-m hurdles, clocking 1:06.26 seconds; Jay Anne Dieta of Kabankalan City - silver (1:07.36); and Mazie Ann Mondejar of Negros Occidental - bronze (1:08.10).

In elementary boys division, Jemar Barog of Bacolod City won the gold in shot put after registering a 9.32-meter distance; Laurence Rexe Magos of Bago City settled for silver (8.35 meters); and Erohn Trajo of Bago City took the bronze (8.20 meters).

Christian Aquino of Bacolod City won the gold in 110-m hurdles, clocking 19.85 seconds; Kim Harold Arevalo of Negros Occidental settled for silver (20.29 seconds); and Joshua Basanes bagged the bronze (20.30 seconds).

Daniel Bonifacio of Negros Occidental won the gold in elementary boys long jump, registering 5.01 meters; Ryan Jay Mendoza of Sagay City grabbed the silver (4.91 meters); and teammate Reniel Reloc took the bronze (4.89 meters).

In 400-m hurdles, Jericho Mogelio of Negros Occidental won the gold clocking 59:73 seconds; Carl Gabriel Lopez of Bacolod City settled for silver (1:01.12 seconds), and John Rey Cornelio of Kabankalan City took the bronze (1:02.20 seconds).
