TELLING tales of defeat and victory, tarot cards have evolved since and their enchanting images have been interpreted by both mystics and psychoanalysts hoping to provide a more realistic insight into the mystery of the fortune telling capabilities of these cards.
The mystery behind tarot cards, ever since their existence in the mid-fifteenth century, inspired the Sketchbook Challenge Cebu Staff namely Veronika Hipolito, Eumir Carlo Fernandez, Louise Nicole Fernandez, Paulina Nicole Suarez and Philip Bawasanta to gather and collaborate with 78 Cebuano artists to create and interpret in their own artistic ways the images found on tarot cards. These artists created a Rider-Waite Tarot, the French kind of tarot deck which was first published in the early 1900s, created by Arthur Edward Waite and Pamela Colman Smith.
The varying digital artworks were displayed during the 10th Otakufest: The Matrix last Feb. 18 in UP Cebu, and merchandise such as a tarot card deck was available accompanied by a guidebook that explains the meaning behind every card and a manual on how one may properly use the tarot cards.
