Boy, 6, drowns while swimming in resort pool

A six-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool of a resort in Little Marikina, Barangay Estaca, Compostela, Cebu. Police identified the casualty as Luke Ivan Estrera Carvajal, of Barangay Casuntingan, Mandaue City. He was rushed to the hospital, but the doctor declared him dead on arrival. Investigation showed the boy was left unattended by his cousins and uncle, past 7 p.m. last Saturday. Carvajal possibly slipped and fell into the pool’s deeper portion. The resort’s lifeguard reportedly failed to notice that the boy was alone in the pool.

'Mentally ill' rescued after jumping off ship

A 36-year-old man believed to be mentally ill was rescued by employees of an ice plant after he jumped off Hagnaya Port, in San Remigio, Cebu yesterday morning. Jesus Chuck Villacrusis, a resident of Madridejos, Bantayan Island, was turned over to the Coast Guard, but he escaped at past 12 p.m. Chief Petty Officer Apolinario Fermin of the Coast Guard detachment in San Remigio said Villacrusis boarded the MV Super Shuttle at the Hagnaya Port. The boat was bound for Sta. Fe, Bantayan Island. After the boat set sail, Villacrusis jumped off.

Foreigner lost money, valuables to salisi gang

A foreign national fell victim to the “Salisi gang,” losing P54,400 worth of items inside a coffee shop in Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City last Sunday evening. The victim was identified as Lee Mi Yeon, 38, from Incheon, South Korea, was staying at Plantation Bay Resort. The stolen items consist of an P8,000 sling bag, a wallet containing P2,000 cash, a Visa Card, a P4,400 power bank, room keys and a P40,000 Samsung S7 phone.
