Mayor: ‘No drugs' in Masantol despite priest's claims

MASANTOL – Mayor Danilo Guintu of this town recently assured the public that Masantol remains a “drug-cleared” municipality up to now.

This was after San Simon town parish priest Rev. Fr. Homer Policarpio disclosed in a meeting that a supply of illegal drugs is coming from Masantol town.

According to him, drug surrenderees who were recently caught using illegal drugs while undergoing rehabilitation revealed that they are getting their supply from this town.

“Tumakas yung mga surrenderee natin, dalawa sila tapos nung nahuli namin sila sa likod lang ng center gumagamit ulit. So tinanong namin saan galing, nabanggit nga nila na Masantol,” Policarpio narrated.

He also mentioned that the sureenderees identified the alleged supplier as Marcia and Romnick Lobo.

Upon hearing the concern, Guintu said he immediately ordered the local government and police to confirm the information and investigate it.

He said the Police Chief Inspector Julius Javier, this town’s police chief, personally visited and talked to the reformists to validate the information.

Javier disclosed that the drug surrenderees clarified that the illegal drugs are coming from Novaliches, Quezon City and not in Masantol town.

He added that the alleged supplier Marcia only hails from Masantol but is now residing in Barangay Sto. Nino here while Romnick was reportedly from Sto. Tomas town but is now in Novaliches.

The two suspects allegedly transport the illegal drugs to a certain “Del” whose house is also used allegedly as drug den.

“Nung makuha namin yung information kay Fr. Homer, ininstruct ako agad ni Mayor Dan na i-validate yun para maclarify namin kasi as far as we are concern, wala ng drugs sa Masantol,” Javier said.

Guintu, for his part, said that he will continue to monitor the incident to also ensure that the suspects do not have transactions in their municipality.

He added that the local government and police will continue to coordinate to ensure peace and order in this town.
