Boy dies after he was run over by trailer truck
A 4-year-old boy was killed when a trailer truck ran him over near the tunnel in South Road Properties yesterday morning. Police identified the victim as Jonas Cuyno, who was reportedly a child of two scavengers. In the initial investigation of the Traffic Division, Cuyno was with other children, including his 6-year-old brother, crossing the highway past 11 a.m. Marlon Velos, the driver, said he didn’t notice the boy. Velos surrendered to the Cebu City Transportation Office who first responded to the incident.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) 7 urged the public to learn firefighting skills in celebration of March as Fire Prevention Month. Senior Supt. Samuel Tadeo, BFP 7 director, said this is part of their intensified campaign against fires in the barangays. Recently, a two-hour fire displaced 1,130 individuals in Barangays Tisa and Labangon. This year’s Fire Prevention Month carries the theme “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagahan, Ibayong Pag-iingat sa Sunog sa Sariling Pamamahay ay Simulan.”
Man who 'raped' minor in Bantayan arrested
Police arrested a 27-year-old suspected junkie for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island last Monday morning. Mark Danvel Villacarlos Olmos was identified by the victim as the one who abused her. The girl told investigators that the suspect forced her to go with him to a bushy area in a beach resort at 7 p.m. last Sunday. Olmos then allegedly raped her, she said. Her family reported the matter to police, who arrested Olmos in his residence.
Soldiers facing drug charges an isolated case
The acting spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) Central Command said the arrest of three military men inside a drug den is an isolated case. First Lt. Roger Abitria Jr. said they are not protecting the three corporals who were under training in Central Command Camp Lapu-Lapu in Barangay Apas. Corporals Joar Francisco, 34, Edrelle Bayles, 35, and George Gutierrez, 35, were arrested last Saturday for allegedly having drug paraphernalia in their possession.
Submit lists of drug suspects: brgys. told
Barangay officials may face charges if they fail to submit a list of drug personalities to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7. PDEA 7 Director Yogi Filemon Ruiz said they are focusing on Cebu City because it is the “center of the drug problem.” He said he wants other barangay chiefs in the region to submit their lists in advance. Those who already submitted a list are Barangays Tisa, Quiot, Lahug, Sawang Calero, Calamba, Apas, and Poblacion Pardo.
