Bucoy returns after 15 years off the bowling lane

EIGHT months after returning to competitive bowling, Eric Bucoy showed that there’s something left in the tank as he snagged the Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (Cetba) Bowler of the Month (BOM) for February title.

The 66-year-old Bucoy, who stopped playing in bowling tournaments for 15 years, dug deep in his bag of tricks to finish with 1,328 pinfalls in a six-game series at the SM City Cebu Bowling Center last weekend.

Bucoy carded his best shot in the sixth and final game with a day’s best 222 following a 233 and 205 in the fourth and fifth games.

The final three games had made up for Bucoy’s slow start in the first three where he had 151, 188 and 149.

“For almost 15 years, I did not join bowling competitions, but I still played just for fun. I returned joining competitions eight months ago,” said Bucoy.

“I’ve been practicing almost every day for the last months. I was happy that it paid off,” added Bucoy, who clinched a spot for the Bowler of the Year (BOY) Tournament in December.

Celis Viloria nabbed second place with 1,314, Jerry Davis settled third with 1,293, Nestor Longcanaya scored 1,283 for fourth place and Ging Francisco had 1,261 for fifth place.

Competing the Top 10 are Cetba Vice-President Docdoc Gothong (1,245), Joseph Yu (1,240), Gretchen Tormis (1,238), Makoto Osada (1,230) and Terrence Williams (1,225).
