SWU grabs lead in CYBL

SOUTHWESTERN University (SWU)- Phinma grabbed the sole leadership in Group B of the D1 Under-19 category of the Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL) 2017-Casino Active Cup after a lopsided win over University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 63-38, last Saturday at the Aznar Coliseum.

SWU, which handed USJ-R its first defeat, is now ranked first in Group B with a 3-0 slate, while USJ-R is 2-1.

Paref-Springdale logged its first win with a 55-52 victory over Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) in the other Group B D1 Under-19 game at the SHS-AdC Gen. Maxilom Ave. Campus Gym, while One on One beat Abellana National School (ANS), 62-53, in Group A.

SHS-AdC closed in on No. 1 ranked Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) after 58-48 win over ANS, while SWU-Phinma defeated University of San Carlos (USC)-South A, 45-39, in the D1 Under-16 age class.

DBTC A edged out SACS, 47-44, in the only D1 Under-13 match of the day.

In the Under-11 division, Paref-Springdale won against USC-South, 35-25; SHS-AdC outclassed USJ-R, 57-40; Monterey annihilated USC-North B, 54-0; and One on One crushed SCSIT, 45-21.

In D2 games, MOSP squeaked past SCSIT, 85-84, in the Under-19 division. GAB edged out Monterey, 37-35; Compre destroyed ANS Girls, 49-21; and MOSP thrashed USC South B, 47-31, in the Under-16 class. USC-South blanked Paref-Springdale, 38-29; SWU-Phinma defeated One on One, 52-46; and Paref-Springdale beat SCSIT B, 34-30, in the Under-13 category.
