CEBU (Updated) -- Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio gave birth to a baby boy on Thursday noon, March 2, according to the City's Information Office.
At 12:56 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, the presidential daughter delivered a healthy baby boy nick-named Stonefish.
An Instagram photo was posted by Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte showing the happy faces of lawyer Manases Carpio and the mayor lying on the hospital bed while cuddling the new born baby.
“Congratulations Inday and Mans! Hello Stonefish,” the vice mayor captioned the photo.
Stonefish, who was delivered through a cesarean section, weighs 2.42 kilos or 5.3 pounds.
The Davao City Information Office (CIO) also quoted Lawyer Manases Carpio expressing his thanksgiving to God for the mayor’s safe delivery of their third child.
"Thank you, Lord, for the gift of life," said the mayor's husband, lawyer Manases Carpio.
The mayor is stable and generally fine, Carpio said.
Stonefish is the third child of the couple after Mikhaila Maria, nicknamed Sharky, 8, and Matteo Lucas, nicknamed Stingray, 4.
Presidential Spokesperson Ernie Abella said that President Rodrigo Duterte, the mayor’s father, is pleased with the news.
Malacañang in a statement sent to SunStar Davao congratulated the mayor and her husband.
"The President is delighted with the arrival of his newest 'apo', and he is glad that both Mayor Sara and Stonefish are healthy and stable. The arrival of the Chief Executive’s newest 'apo' strengthens PRRD’s resolve to leave a legacy of a Philippines safe and secure from drugs and heinous crimes to future generation of Filipinos."
Davao City Councilor Bernard Al-ag, in a text message to SunStar Davao, extended his greetings to the Carpio family.
"We are very very happy for Mayor Inday and Atty. Mans. We are also very excited to follow the journey of baby Stonefish," Al-ag said.
Mayor Sara is supposed to give birth to triplets but she lost the two others due to stress days after the infamous Roxas Night Market blast in 2016. (With DDA/SunStar Philippines and KVC/SunStar Davao)
