Trinidad: Flower language at Session Road in Bloom

EVERY now and then, I look at the bouquet of yellow tulips on top of our display cabinet, and I feel my heart smile. Amazing how the flowers can brighten my mood, make me feel more cheerful.

The tulips are a gift from our clients who have their flower farm in Sayangan. They told us these would last for 2 weeks, days after Session Road in Bloom is done.

With 3 days before the event closes, and yesterday being particularly gloomy, the sight of the flowers does brighten the spirits.

Small wonder that they do, yellow tulips represent sunshine and cheerful thoughts. Had our clients given us red tulips, these would have meant true love.

There is a whole language to flowers. Floriography refers to the symbolic communication through the use of flowers and their arrangement.

Did you know that primroses mean 'I can't live without you?' Methinks it's so romantic. (I came across this in one of the novels I read, and the memory stayed). Evening primroses have medicinal gifts as well, they are an alternative herbal remedy for rheumatoid arthritis and can help with pms, heart disease and many more.

Back to flowers and their messages. Here is a short list and what they convey.

Red roses- I love you, desire

Pink roses- grace, happiness, gentleness

White roses-purity and innocence

Mimosa- chastity

Pink carnation- I will never forget you

Red carnation- My heart aches, I admire you

White carnation- pure love, innocence

Red chrysanthemum- I love you very much

Striped chrysanthemum- you've been friendzoned, your love cannot be returned

White chrysanthemum- good luck

Daisy- hope

Lavender - I am devoted to you

Peony- happy marriage

Yarrow- everlasting love

After looking at all the meanings of these flowers, I find myself overwhelmed as always. Panagbenga is truly a season of blooming. If one were to take just a few moments to pause and inhale not just the scent, or the beauty, the texture, the colors of the flowers, but also their significance, they would connect to their core and realize that they are surrounded by divine expressions of the degrees of love and beauty that seek to give joy and happiness.

Flowers have been the in the earth for just a while, and they bring with them the positive energies of the earth. How much more for the crystals which have been in the earth for thousands, hundred thousand and even millions of years? Crystals are the flowers of the mineral world. Imagine all their potential beneficial energy!

As always, we have to remind everyone that crystals need to be awakened before they can give their gifts. Asleep, they become just accessories.

My gaze is drawn to the yellow tulips atop our display case. My heart smiles.
