Sungduan: New direction

EXPECT a lot of female gender oriented films to watch in Baguio City this month of March for the Women’s Month celebration.

That is what the Film Development Council of the Philippines through Cinematheque Baguio is offering for all independent film enthusiasts as their way of supporting the very important occasion giving recognition to all the women in the region.

But FDCP-Cinematheque Baguio which is now moving towards a new direction after a transition is yet to set the schedule of movies to be shown at their new home which will be revealed soon through their Facebook page.

Meanwhile, residents and visitors of Baguio will have a better opportunity to know more about indie films in the locality through public viewing at the Malcolm Square People’s Park in partnership with the local government of the Summer Capital and office of City Council Tourism Committee Chair Councilor Elmer Datuin.

Also, works are underway for the conduct of the first Cordillera Film Festival or Film Festival of the North before the year ends. This will showcase the great works of independent filmmakers in the region showing stories of their own unique culture.

FDCP Chair Liza Diño-Seguerra said consultations with the members of the community in the city including the different municipalities already started to get their suggestions. Such activity aims to better serve the local filmmakers and empower and strengthen their talents as well.

“We believe that cinema is always mobile. We recognize your needs. You have so many talents,” Diño said.

Starting this month, Cinematheque Baguio will conduct a series of workshops encompassing all aspect of film making such as cinematography, production design, scriptwriting, and even business design or strategy in finding finance for movies.

This program of FDCP will lead to better appreciation of films, inspire young to old filmmakers to produce films, and be recognized for their brilliant talents.

It will also be good if filmmakers will be organized by forming an organization that will strengthen their group.
