Inmates complete organic soap making workshop

TEN female persons deprived of liberty (PDL) completed a six-months course on organic soap making and received their NC2 certificates February 27 at the Baguio City Jail Female Dorm.

Korean trainors Pastor Ki Young Joo and wife Eun Chong Li of the Philippine group Hatid Pag-asa of the Korean volunteers group Global Hope, confirmed the skills in skin whitening soap making through their partner school First Asian Career Education (FACE), Inc.

Dr. Arnold Mendoza, president of FACE, Inc. awarded the NC2 certificates.

“I hope you will use every skill you learn for your growth and improvement and for the glory of God.” He added that “it is not God who changes but we change,” Mendoza said.

As part of the training skills, the Korean pastor-trainor gave Bible verses memorization which Alma Masilayan, a PDL, thanked the trainors for.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Female Dorm Warden April Rose Ayangwa thanked Global Hope Director Rev. Kim Hyu Sung and Hatid Pag-asa for choosing BCJ Female Dorm as one of their beneficiaries.

Ayangwa said the PDLs were given Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) points for the training while they become skilled and empowered adding the skills earned would give the PDLs alternative employment when released. (Charina Marie Ymson and Jhona Estrada)
