JOINT police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested a government official in an anti-drug campaign in Zamboanga del Norte, an official announced Sunday, March 5.
Zamboanga del Norte Police Director Edwin Buenaventura Wagan identified the arrested official as Matt Paul Iguana, 29, a village councilor of Dansalan, Labason town.
Wagan said Iguana was arrested around 11:40 p.m. Friday at Babami Beach Resort in Sitio Lupag in the village of Malintuboan, Labason, Zamboanga del Norte.
He said the government official was arrested after he sold to an undercover policeman a heat-sealed plastic sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as "shabu," in exchange for P1,000.
The arresting team seized from the possession of Iguana seven heat-sealed plastic sachets, including one large-sized, of suspected shabu, P1,000 marked money consisting of two P500 bills, a mobile phone, a motorcycle, prohibited drugs paraphernalia, medicine, condom, and identification documents.
Wagan said the arrested village official was detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against him.
