TEN non-commissioned officers of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) were relieved from their posts for neglect of duty effective March 3.
Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, officer-in-charge of BCPO, confirmed on Sunday the relief of seven policemen assigned at Police Station 10 and three policemen assigned at Police Station 2.
They were transferred to Bacolod City Public Safety Company and were detailed as guards at the BCPO gate, Wanky said.
He did not name the 10 policemen upon the request of their respective station chiefs.
Wanky said the two station chiefs, Senior Inspector Ramel Bustamante of Police Station 10 and Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias Jr. Police Station 2, were not liable for the lapses of their personnel for valid reasons.
Early morning of March 1, the seven policemen were caught sleeping while on duty when a police official came to inspect Police Station 10.
On the same day, the police official also visited Police Station 2, where he found the station closed, and the three personnel dozing off in their posts.
Wanky said he confirmed the reports after he saw copies of the closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footages showing the identified policemen sleeping on duty.
It was a very glaring violation, he added.
A police official visits the stations to ensure the readiness of the policemen in case of any untoward incidents and threats, Wanky said.
They were supposed to be ready for any battle and not sleeping, he added.
Upon the submission of the explanations of the 10 policemen as part of the procedure, Wanky recommended them for a pre-charge investigation to give them due process and to determine the extent of their sanctions, if proven guilty.
They might also face administrative charges for their offense, he added.
