Duterte taps former professor as consultant for education

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed his former professor, Jose David Lapuz, as the presidential consultant for Education and International Organization.

Lapuz was appointed on February 17.

Lapuz became Duterte’s political science professor at the Lyceum of the Philippines University in the 1960s.

After Duterte won the presidential elections in May 2016, it was floated that Lapuz will take over the Commission on Higher Education (Ched).

Lapuz’s appointment, however, did not materialize as incumbent Ched Chairperson Patricia Licuanan is mandated, according to Republic Act 7722, to hold office for four years per term. Her term will expire in 2018. (SunStar Philippines)
