Taxi driver IDs back soon

THE Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) aims to gather 2,000 drivers for the refresher seminar for public utility vehicles (PUV), a requirement for jeepney and taxi drivers to have their updated identification cards.

CTTMO head Dionesio Abude said in a media interview Monday, March 6, that the orientation will be held on March 7 and 9, at Almendras Gym from 7:30 a.m. until 12 noon.

Abude said another batch will have the orientation in the afternoon and drivers can avail the seminar weekly at CTTMO office.

"Taxi drivers gina-una namo, after two days, by weekly na buhaton sa CTTMO (We will prioritize taxi drivers and after the two-day seminar we will conduct other set of seminars at the CTTMO office)," he said.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio recently requested the concerned departments to require drivers to undergo the traffic education program that will remind drivers of their responsibilities so that untoward activities concerning drivers will be prevented.

Issues concerning PUV drivers, especially taxi drivers, stemmed from complaints that taxi drivers without proper IDs are being involved in spray modus operandi wherein drivers allegedly use fumes to make passengers dizzy.

Davao City Administrator Zuleika Lopez said in a previous interview that identification cards will be issued to the drivers after the seminar.

Assistant Administrator lawyer Lawrence Bantiding, meanwhile, said in a media interview Monday that the new identification cards of drivers will have a new look.

One of the proposed design he showed was an ID with a logo of Davao City and the City Mayor's Office.

Bantiding also said a much smaller ID with a clear printed name of the driver is now being considered.

Bantiding said that based on the city ordinance, IDs must be placed in front of dashboard, printed back to back, and at the back of the right front seat.
