Women's forum set in Davao

POINT Blue is set to stage today, March 8, a forum dubbed as "Miss Heard: Redefining the Modern Day" at The Annex of SM City Davao as part of the women's month celebration that aims to empower women of today's generation and recognize their value in nation-building.

Raphil Saguan, Assistant Project Manager of Point Blue composed of 4th year Mass Communication students from Ateneo de Davao University (Addu), said that they are holding the event to create a platform for women to raise their voices on issues relevant to the society.

"We entitled it this way to hit two birds with one stone. First Miss Heard because some of the women today are somehow misheard, not understood by the society. In our cause, we spelled it out as Miss Heard," Saguan said on Monday.

They also view this is a way to acknowledge the effort and participation of the women sector in the significant developments that is happening in the community.

This is in partnership with SM City Davao and Ateneo Public Interest and Legal Advocacy (Apila) that will feature three empowered women who will discuss different topics particularly gender roles, beauty and sexuality that will start from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

One of the resource speakers is Cathy Binag who will share her insights into the topic Gender Roles which will basically "revolve on women juggling different roles".

Binag is the owner of The White House, a fine-dining restaurant in the city, a chef, an image consultant and a mother.

Meanwhile, Jill Palanca who is a former writer, director, and producer in MYV Asia, TV5 and Channel [V] Philippines will talk on beauty. She studied filmmaking at the New York Film Academy and is now a university professor.

The speaker on sexuality has yet to be determined.

"We invited different schools as our audience. We do not have an estimate because it would be open for all. If people want to come here and listen then they are free to do so," he said.
