More village workers test for drug use

AT least 10 garbage loaders and barangay tanods in four villages in Cebu City tested positive for drug use during a surprise drug test last Monday.

Dr. Alice Utlang, Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse and Prevention chief, said that it will be up to Mayor Tomas Osmeña to announce the exact number of loaders and tanods of Barangays Inayawan, Quiot, Basak San Nicolas and Cogon Pardo who tested positive in the initial drug test.

Results will still be subjected to confirmatory tests.

A total of 133 tanods and loaders from four barangays were asked to undergo the surprise drug test last Monday, but only 122 showed up.

Under the City’s policy, those who are found positive for using illegal drugs will be terminated, but barangay captains will have the last say for their workers.

Utlang said they may also choose to undergo the City’s rehabilitation program.
