Zambo market chief denies illegal collection of fees

MARKET Supervisor Nathaniel Asuncion denied the reported illegal collection of fees at the main public market, saying that such is only a story he himself has heard since he was yet a teenager.

Asuncion said no less than market vendors themselves denied anybody collecting fees from them.

He explained, however, there are in fact certain collections at the market but these are not illegal like the daily loan amortization of the market vendors and those made by the City Treasurer’s Office.

The market chief surmised the daily loan amortization of market vendors might have been misconstrued or misunderstood as illegal collection by suspected unscrupulous persons at the waterfront public market.

Nonetheless, if ever there really is illegal collection, Asuncion appealed for help, especially from the media, to give the names of whoever are involved or other details about the alleged illegal collections at the main market. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
