Comelec holds special registration for women in Zamboanga City

THE local office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is holding series of special satellite voter registration for women in line with the celebration of Women’s Month this March.

First District election officer Stephen Roy Cañete said the satellite registration is to enhance the participation of women in choosing leaders.

“We are giving them (women) priority since it is Women’s Month,” Cañete added.

The special satellite registration started on Wednesday, March 8, at the Western Mindanao State University.

The succeeding schedules are on March 15 in Zamboanga City Medical Center, March 16 in KCC Mall de Zamboanga, and March 29 in Zamboanga City Reformatory Center.

Cañete said women and girls are given priority although they will also accommodate transfer of voters’ registration and other qualified persons to register.

He said the special satellite registration is for voters aged 15 and older, including those who will vote in the Youth Council elections.

The election officer added the voter registration is in preparation for the 2019 mid-term election.

The continuing registration of voters is pursuant to Comelec Resolution 10166. It started on November 7, 2016 and will end on April 26 this year. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
