Valley to penalize erring contractors

MEMBERS of the La Trinidad Council are planning to penalize contractors who failed to properly implement projects.

Councilor Renato Tereng’s help was sought by some senior citizens in the town who complained of the sub-standard construction of the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) at the back of the valley’s vegetable trading post.

Based on the senior citizens complain, it was found out the building has too many defects including a functional comfort room, not fitted flooring and leaking roof.

Municipal Engineer Benedict Pineda during Tuesday’s council session clarified the construction of the three storey building started in 2009 and now on its fifth phase with an estimated amount of P12 million.

Pineda added there is a P1 million funding from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Central Office up for bidding for the continuation of the OSCA building.

The amount will be used for renovation of the first storey, continuation of construction of the second floor and water proofingin the third floor, according to Pineda.

Municipal Social Welfare and Development Assistant Officer Ireneo Alfaro meanwhile said the multi-purpose building needs a yearly allocated budget for a continuous construction.

Aside from senior citizens, the building will also cater to a women’s center while the third floor will be a multi-function hall, said Ireneo.

Only the first floor was turned over to the senior citizens federation.

The council is set to inspect the building.
