Sungduan: Modern heroes

IF THERE are professions considered as the noblest of all the line of works, the teachers, soldiers, and police are on top of the list.

Their important role in the society molding the young minds to be a good citizen in the country and waging their lives for the welfare of the nation, deserve not just a simple applause but a full recognition for their outstanding works.

Those who exude an exceptional character and exemplify commitment to public service are worthy to be nominated in the Ten (10) Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos Award. The Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) said nominations for the award for year 2017 are now open.

A total of four teachers, three soldiers, and three police officers will be awarded and will bring home 10 million pesos worth of cash prizes including a trophy and a medallion. All awardees will also be conferred the title “2017 Metrobank Foundation Fellows in Public Service” during the bank’s 55th anniversary celebration in September plus an opportunity to share their best practices through lectures across the country.

The Search for Outstanding Teachers (SOT) is in partnership with the Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education while the Outstanding Philippine Soldiers (TOPS) is in partnership with the Rotary Club of Makati Metro (RCMM) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). On the other hand, the Country’s Outstanding Police Officers in Service (COPS) is in partnership with the Rotary Club of New Manila East (RCNME), PSBank, and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Nominations can be submitted to the MBFI Secretariat or to the nearest Metrobank branch on or before March 24, 2017. The teachers, police officers, and soldiers are considered as the modern heroes today as described by Filipino poet Alcomtiser P. Tumangan in the poem “Mga Bayani ng Lahi”. They are heroes whom people can depend on.

A recognition and great appreciation for all their sacrifices is one meaningful reward for them.
