22 Tokhang surrenderees ‘positive' on drug test

SAN LUIS -- Some 22 drug surrenderees from this town recently tested positive in the one-time-big-time drug examination conducted by the local government and police.

This was despite the commitment forged by self-confessed drug users and pushers to disengage themselves from their illegal vices in exchange for free reformation program.

Mayor Venancio Macapagal said that the surprise drug test is part of the intensified anti-drug campaign and Oplan Double Barrel Alpha Reloaded program of the Philippine National Police which aims to further suppress the drug menace in the town.

He said that of the total 187 drug surrenderees in town, 137 participated in the examination and 22 were confirmed of continuously using illegal drugs.

Macapagal said that the 22 drug-positive surrenderees are now considered priority patients and will be part of the second batch of drug reformists.

Under the program, the drug users will receive physical conditioning, spiritual guidance and livelihood training activities aimed at helping them veer away from illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, Macapagal said that 50 surrenderees who did not attend the activity will be subject of house-to-house activities to check and monitor their status.
