Payao wins bantam belt

JHALEEL Payao bagged the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) bantamweight belt after a win over Jason Tinampay last Wednesday in the main event of “Rumble sa Masbate” at the Cawayan Social Center.

The 23-year-old Payao beat Tinampay by unanimous decision. Payao improved to 15-1 with eight knockouts, while the 21-year-old Tinampay dropped to 8-4-1 with seven knockouts.

Payao’s teammate at the Omega Boxing Gym, Jimboy Haya, also walked away with the unanimous nod over erstwhile unbeaten Ken Jordan (4-1-1, 4 KOs) in the main supporting bout.

In the undercard, Rimon Rama (6-0-1, 4 KOs) stopped Jordan (2-3), Ponciano Rimandiman (5-4-1, 3 KOs) beat Lenmar Precillas (3-3, 1 KO) by unanimous decision, RR Borbon (4-1-1, 4 KOs) stopped Belmar Plaza (3-9, 1 KO), Jay Ar Aliasot (5-1, 5 KOs) knocked out Eddie Estibat (3-3, 3 KOs),Oliver Genecera (3-0, 2 KOs) beat Rolien Getalada by unanimous decision (0-3), Taiwanese Ming Hong Lee (1-0, 1 KO) had a successful pro debut with a stoppage win over Wilfredo Ruta (0-2), Eric Pulgo (1-0) beat fellow rookie Tony Tuñacao (0-1) by split decision.
