A P2-MILLION budget will be allocated for a flood control and mitigation plan under Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio's Do30 projects.
Based on the information provided by Ivan Cortez, City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) head, the floodway mitigation plan's priority will start with the land contour and level preservation ordinance that will be used to stop and preserve contours and elevation of land. Thus, there will be no more earth movement and earth refilling activities unless it is classified to be necessary in relation to flood control measures.
The project will look into the possibility of purchasing of land or accepting land donations to be utilized as water retention ponds. Also, will target full implementation of the rain harvesting ordinance which requires commercial and residential buildings to construct a rainwater catchment system with facilities for collection, storage, treatment and drainage.
The project will be under the Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation programs of the mayor's top 30 projects, which are targeted to be implemented within her three-year term.
The program aims to develop and strengthen disaster preparedness, response and recovery programs to promote resiliency and mitigate the risks and impacts of disaster.
The project will be spearheaded by the City Council, CPDO, Davao City Disaster Risk and Management Office (DRRMO), and the City Engineer's Office.
