Driver's license backlog remains

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) Davao Region has recorded a total of 58,348 backlogs in the issuance of driver's license as of March 1, 2017, an official said.

"We have printed a total of 28,151 license cards, expect that in the following months it will lessen even more," LTO Davao Regional Director Gomer Dy said during a recent interview with Sunstar Davao.

LTO Davao Assistant Regional Director Neil Cañedo during the I-Speak forum held at the City Hall of Davao, Thursday, March 9 reported that they have already issued a total of 32,429 plastic driver's license with three-year validity.

"In Davao City alone, there are 29,133 unissued license cards for the three year validity. By May, we hope to complete its distribution so that we can push through with release of the five-year license cards," he said.

Backlog for the five-year licenses in the region is 57,007.

LTO Davao Region started issuing driver’s licenses with five-year validity since November 2016. The licenses, Cañedo said, cost more at P800 than the three-year licenses, which only cost P600.

“Nag-increase jud ta, karon pag magkuha ka og student permit nasa P317.80 plus an additional P350 for the medical, kay ang medical karon online na man ta (We have increased the cost, now when you get a student permit it is at P317.80 plus an additional P350 for the medical because you can have it online already). We have licensed doctors on-standby at our office, ready to take your medical examinations," he said.
