AFTER hosting two national open competitions, Cebu is now ready to host an Asian Cup Outdoor Archery competition.
In March next year, the World Archery Philippines (WAP) will bring archers from at least 10 nations to Cebu to take part of a four-day event.
“We are targeting March of 2018. No date yet but, it’s better to plan it earlier. More or less we will have 10-12 nations. Probably we will have around 200 foreign archers. This is the biggest archery event that we can host,” said WAP secretary general Dondon Sombrio.
This tournament is a preparation for the 18th Asian Games which will be held in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia in September of 2018.
“The possible nations coming include Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, India, South Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Japan, China, Indonesia. Also Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam probably would come,” continued Sombrio.
Among the venue that Sombrio is looking at is the South Reclamation Properties.
“I am still scouting for venues, including a lot in SRP. Mas maayo didto para kita gyud nato kinsa ang maayong laki. It’s going to be good experience for the archers, and the most important thing nobody could set a record,” added Sombrio.
This event would put Cebu on the map of world archery, especially that the Guinnes world record for the biggest archery class and tournament is held by Cebu City.
