Bunye: Search for outstanding Filipinos continues

DO YOU know a teacher, a soldier or a police officer who is a role model of excellence and integrity and who has gone beyond the call of duty to serve others?

This individual could be right next to you -- your fellow worker, neighbor, community leader. This individual goes about the job sans fanfare but without even knowing it, he/she, by precept and example, has inspired and lifted others in more ways than one.

If you do, seize this opportunity to let the rest of the country know what your next door hero has done for the community and for nation-building, that others may be empowered to do likewise.

You have until March 24 to submit your nomination for the “2017 Metrobank Foundation Fellows in Public Service” awards.

By September, a distinguished group of judges will choose from among the nominees ten awardees: 4 teachers, 3 soldiers and 3 police officers.

Each awardee will receive a cash prize of P1 million pesos, a trophy, and a medallion.

Also, each awardee will have the opportunity to share his/her experience and best practice, through lectures, to a wider audience across the country.

Be yourself an agent for positive change by participating in the process of selecting local heroes in the academe, military or police service.

You may obtain a nomination form online through any of the following: bit.ly/2017MBFIOF; www.mbfoundation.org.ph or through the Facebook page “Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos”.

Your nominee/s must have the following qualifications:

- Minimum of 10 years of service with at least “very satisfactory” rating in the last 10 years. Those who are set to retire must have at least 3 remaining years of service.

- Qualified elementary and secondary teachers must have completed academic requirements for Master’s Degree while Higher Education teachers must have a doctorate degree.

- Qualified AFP commissioned officers (Captain to Colonel) must have completed a Bachelor’s Degree while AFP enlisted personnel (Corporal to Chief Master Sergeant) must have completed a High School degree.

- PNP commissioned officers (Police Inspector to Police Senior Superintendent) and non-commissioned officers (PO2 to SPO4) must have completed at least a Bachelor’s Degree.

- Nominees must have exhibited good moral character and must not have been charged guilty in any administrative or criminal case.

You may submit your nomination/s directly to the Metrobank Foundation Inc. Secretariat or to any Metrobank branch nearest you on or before March 24, 2017.

Aniceto Sobrepeña, president of Metrobank Foundation Inc. (MBFI), said that through the awards, MBFI hopes “to further highlight the overall contributions, inspiring stories of gallantry, innovations and sacrifices of modern day heroes and heighten general public’s appreciation of these professions and the institutions they represent.”

Sobrepeña reported that since 1984, MBFI has already honored 645 Outstanding Filipinos—356 teachers, 121 soldiers, and 138 police officers.

MBFI was established on January 8, 1979 by Dr. George S. K. Ty, founder of the Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company (Metrobank).

Over the years, MBFI has implemented various programs in education, visual arts and healthcare.

It maintains an active and dynamic partnership with other organizations that likewise provide services for the underprivileged sectors of society and remains equally responsive to emergency and relief operations for affected Filipinos in times of natural calamities in the Philippines and in Asia.
