Davao traffic office identifies congested areas

THE Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office identified Matina, J.P Laurel near Abreeza and Panacan as priority areas where additional pedestrian overpasses will be built.

Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) head retired Senior Superintendent Dionesio Abude said their office identified those areas which has high volume of people.

Abude identified the section of McArthur Highway traversing Ateneo de Davao high school as one of the high volume areas.

“Mapua Institute of Technology will be built in the area soon, so the increase of volume of people is expected. This is why we are making plans in advance,” Abude said.

He added that they cannot identify yet how many overpasses will be built, but he is sure it is in the areas with high volume of pedestrian.

Abude said that the proposal for the pedestrian overpass is now studied by the Technical Working Group (TWG) of the CTTMO.

“We have engineers who make the plan measurements,” Abude said.

CTTMO head said once the proposal will be approved by the TWG, it will be turned over to the Department of Public Works and Highways.

“Our office is just tasked to identify and make recommendations to the DPWH,” he said.
