The new landmarks

GIANTS are now taking shape and changing Davao city's landscape, causing heads to turn whether they be travelers or residents.

These giants, aside from being head turners, are now becoming new landmarks and guiding points while going for a drive around the King City of the South.

These giant infrastructures will soon become like northern stars that will guide the lost to the right path while basking in the excitement of exploring different destinations in the city.

Here are some of them:

Aeon Towers

Aeon Towers, which is anticipated to be among the highest buildings to rise not only in Davao City but also in Mindanao, will soon stand along J.P. Laurel Avenue with its 33 levels.

Aeon Towers is the initial venture by the FTC Group of Companies into real estate development. The group of companies is a Davao-born firm with highly successful track record in business. This skyscraper will hold residential units of varying sizes and features in several floors, a luxury hotel, fitness gym, jogging lane, shops, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) offices, skydeck pool and offices.

J.P. Laurel Avenue will even become more rambunctious especially with the existence of giant malls and condominiums that are already sprouting on its busy streets in the past years.

This P3.2 billion mixed-use 33-storey tower is seen as the next iconic symbol of the city.

Avida Towers

Claveria will once again regain its ardor with the presence of another set of high-rise towers that are being constructed along C.M. Recto Avenue (Claveria).

As years passed, this street seemed to get old but with the presence of these towers, more and more people and establishments will be drawn back to this place.

UP-Davao City Sports Complex

This facility will soon make Davao City capable of hosting the Palarong Pambansa or even more, the Southeast Asian Games.

Too ambitious, you say? That is actually what the city is eyeing especially with this facility’s 20-hectare land area that can surely accommodate huge number of participants for such events.

This P8-billion worth of facility is being constructed at the University of the Philippines-Mindanao in Mintal and is expected to be finished by 2018, according to the previous report, since the city is bidding for the 2019 Palarong Pambansa.

The sports complex will be comprised of a 35,000-seater stadium, multi-purpose training gym, dormitory and medical building, low-rise commercial block, commercial block and recreation, parking building, power house and pump house, practice fields for football, tennis court, sports arena, archery and practical shooting range, indoor basketball, adventure sports, waste management and water treatment facility, aquatics center, country club, and parking area.

The sports complex is also designed for international events such as Fifa World Cup and NBA Games as it meets the standards of international courts.

Davao Park District

The P15-billion Davao Park District is Megaworld's 11.2-hectare township project in Lanang, Davao City.

Inside this township project will soon rise One Lakeshore Drive, which is a 7.2-hectare residential building, as among its components.

It will also offer an eco-tourism project with its 8,000-square-meter man-made lake formed by a natural spring, various resort style amenities, fine dining restaurants, school, lifestyle mall and Davao Finance Center, a 15-storey building for offices.

Aside from that, a world-class medical resort facility which will be called Lanang Premier Doctors Hospital, will also be constructed inside it.

It is like a giant holding several other giants so to speak. This only means more jobs for Dabawenyos and even non-Dabawenyos.

Davao Chocolate Museum

Who wouldn’t get excited at the idea of a chocolate museum? Aiming to put the Philippine in the chocolate map, the Puentespina family, owner of the Malagos Garden resort in Baguio district where this museum is housed, believed that they can encourage more people to embark in cacao planting and chocolate making through informing them about the industry. It just had its grand opening last March 8 and one can visit it for just P200 as entrance fee.

A quick tour inside the museum will help one become knowledgeable about chocolates, its history, how it came in the country, how to taste it, how to make it etc. All your questions about chocolate will surely be answered here.

Integrated Agri Laboratory

This P150 million integrated laboratory which will open in the village of Manambulan, Tugbok District in Davao City will help farmers boost production and ensure quality and bio-safety of agricultural products here.

The laboratory is a 4,000 square meter complex within a three-hectare property. It would directly address the needs for the provision of various diagnostic services, analyses and recommendations to various stakeholders and ensure product quality, consumer safety, and environmental protection for both domestic and global markets.
