A TAXI driver died after he was robbed and mauled by unidentified assailants at Purok Progreso, Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City Saturday morning.

Police identified the fatality as Jhun Tam, 39, of Barangay Cabug.

Senior Superintendent Melchor Coronel, officer-in-charge of Bacolod City Police Office, said Tam was found with wounds in his head after he was hit by a hammer.

The victim was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and was declared dead after an hour of treatment.

Police recovered a hammer from the crime scene.

Tam was found near his taxi and his pants were pulled down. His wallet and a cellular phone were also missing.

Coronel said he believes the crime was committed by more than two suspects.

Coronel also ordered Police Station 7 chief Senior Inspector Jeffrey Attunaga to conduct a thorough investigation in said incident.

Meanwhile, a man was also found dead near his house at Sitio Buri, Barangay Kumaliskis Salvador Benedicto Saturday morning.

Police identified the victim as Pacifico Rebatado, 58.

Senior Inspector Jesus Mesahon, chief of Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station, said Rebatado sustained multiple wounds when unidentified suspects fired at him several times.

Police recovered three empty shells of .45 caliber and one slug of .45 caliber from the crime scene.

Wilma Rebatado, wife of the victim, told the police she heard gunshot and a sound of motorcycle at about 3 a.m.

Police are still conducting further investigation to identify the suspects.(MAP)
