Lawmaker eyes waiting shed improvement

AS PART of tourism development in Baguio City, Representative Mark Go is eyeing to improve waiting sheds to be more attractive not only to residents but also to tourists.

“We are part of the Rev - Bloom campaign, we are moving around the city and identifying the areas. Ang mga waiting shed ay magiging iba parang sa Fort Bonifacio and we will ask for sponsors. We are volunteering to improve the different waiting sheds sa Baguio at papalitan natin ang mga dati, yun ang goal natin,” Go said.

Go explained the project will be run for two years and will be in partnership with the city government, Department of Tourism (DoT), private companies and other private individuals who are willing to give support.

“Walang pondo ng gobyerno dito ang gagamitin, pero as part of the corporate social responsibility ng mga kompanya at mga individuals na gustong mag-donate ng waiting sheds, but we will standardize the waiting sheds na gagawin para parepareho pati yung size pero depende sa location. I just talked to some of them and they said yes mag-vovolunteer sila na mag-donate ng waiting sheds,” Go added.

The project will start in the barangays in the central business district (CBD) going to the different villages in the city.

Aside from this project, the solon has also filed a bill declaring Kennon Road as a National Heritage Zone and appropriating funds for the restoration and development of the highway from Camp 1 to Camp 8 which this is part of tourism and environmental sustainability program.

Another bill is the planting of a tree for every child born. This would be a requirement before registering to the local civil registrar. Every tree planted should be monitored until it grows. Trees can be planted in the respective residence or identified areas of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

“Dito sa Baguio about 5,000 children are born kaya kailangan natin yan plus mga individuals na gustong magtanim pa,” Go said.

“We are hoping this to be approved in the 17th Congress as well as the BLISST development authority which was approved already in the committee level, it is now on the second reading in the plenary of Congress then after that tuloy - tuloy na iyon and it will go to the Senate,” Go ended.
