BJMP-Davao security geared to avoid jailbreaks

THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Davao Region vowed to further improve and strengthen its security measures for jail facilities in the region to avoid jailbreaks amid congestion issues.

BJMP director Pio Rosero said they are not letting their guard down and had already implemented a stricter action to monitor the inmates in various prisons in the region to avoid prison break.

“We are doing our part. We are installing electronic monitoring devices. We are trying to fortify our security measure like physical barriers and other physical fortification para maiwasan natin yong escape (to avoid jailbreak),” he said.

Aside from that, they are also intensifying their inspection to the inmates through conducting regular search in all jails to seize contraband such as illegal drugs and illegal weapons from the possessions of the inmates dubbed as “Oplan Greyhound.”

“We are monitoring the inmates through surprise and coordinated inspection and greyhound inspections,” he said.

When sought for his reaction regarding the controversial photo of inmates in Cebu Provincial Jail, who were stripped naked as the jail watchers are conducting searching for prohibited items, he said they have not yet conducted such way as they abide the standard operating procedure mandated to them.

“Hindi naman necessary yon kasi kahit may underthings yong inmate makikita naman. Hindi necessary na pahubarin talaga in full view at openly (It is not necessary because even if the inmates possess prohibited items, it will all be seen. It is not necessary to stripped them in full view and openly),” he said.
