Team Palaro, BUFC stays unbeaten in Sumvac football

TEAM Palaro scored back to back victories during the weekend to get their title bid rolling in the Baguio City Summer Vacation men’s Open Football League which kicked off March 11 at the Baguio Athletic Bowl.

The Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association secondary football champion on Saturday escaped its Baguio City High School rival, 2-1, before rolling to an easy 3–0 win against Benguet State University on Sunday.

Baguio United Football Club also scored back to back victories during the weekend to tie Team Palaro at the top spot with wins over Dadis, 3–0, and Blue Lions, 3–0 while Kings College and City high bounced back by edging Quezon National High School and University of Baguio respectively.

Coach Aris Bocalan of the Baguio City football squad bound for Palarong Pambansa said the tournament aims to strengthen the team’s chances in the weeklong competition to be held in Antique.

“This early we want to train the boys for us to be able to adjust kung ano yung kulang sa team,” added Bocalan.

Aside from the weekly tournament, a football clinic is also held simultaneously hatched by Cordillera Goshenland Football Club for kids ages 8 under, 10 under and 12 under.

Enrolment fee per module consists of 10 sessions at P1,000 including two training shirts.

Bocalan, together with Gatan Dalang will form the coaching staff for the clinic to be assisted by current college varsity players who was also a graduate of the club's football program.

The clinic will follow the FIFA grassroots football program as the instructional approach.

Games resume during the weekend with the undefeated Team Palaro and BUFC taking on UB and Kings College respectively.
